Greece day 3 "Crete"

So we weren't sure what we'd do today. We were doing some research on a few things last night and one thing we realized is that we HAD to buy an alarm clock. I'm not tired all night and then exhausted by morning so we've been sleeping in. We found a cheap one at a store that is the kind we used to take camping when I was a kid only you don't have to wind it because it takes batteries. Our plan was to set the alarm and get up at a decent time and then decide what to do. Our plan didn't work. The alarm clock's top must have gotten pushed down just enough to shut off the alarm and we didn't wake up till 9:15 am. It's so wierd for me because I can never sleep in at home, even when I want to. So we got up and had our breakfast out on our little deck and read about the Apostle Paul in Athens and then headed to the beach. We have no sunblock so we stopped at a place to get some but they wanted 14 euros for a bottle. I just can't pay it. So we went to the beach we'd been to before and put our towels down and started reading and then after 2 different old men changing their clothes right in front of us, decided to head down to the other side of the beach to see what else was there. We walked past all the beach chairs and then around an out cropping of lava rock and came to a nice stretch of empty beach. The only thing was that instead of shells being washed up here there were large smooth pebbles of all different colors. They were pretty but not fun to walk on. We saved a few for the kids. This area of beach didn't have any protection and the waves were pretty big so we decided to keep walking to see if we could come to a place that we could do some snorkeling. We came to the next out cropping of rock and climbed up to the top and had a snack and some water and found that if you climbed around the rock there was a little area that was like a shallow cave that the sun reached but the wind did not so we left our towels there and went snorkeling. The water feels pretty cold to me but I think I'm kind of a baby when it comes to cold water. We snorkeled for awhile, saw a few fish and a sea urchin but nothing really cool. Then we climbed back up into the little cave and layed out till we were dry then walked back home. We were hungry but it was 3:00 pm so we decided to skip lunch and just have a light snack of crackers, cheese, grapes, & olives on the balcony and then go out to dinner later on. We realized that we need to catch the 7:30 am bus tomorrow to go hike the Samaria gorge so while we were out we walked till we found the bus stop and then had some pizza on the way home. We did find a neat little store w/everything in it 1.50 euro so we picked up a few things there and then stopped at one more place and spent 10.50 euro on sunblock....Ouch! (and I don't mean my sunburn that I got today! Tonight we discovered that you can go up one more flight of stairs and go out on the roof of our building. We went up for a little while tonight and watched the full moon. It was beautiful. Didn't carry my camera w/me today so not much in the way of pitures.
Sure hope that alarm goes off tomorrow.
